AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta Commission members are expected to finalize the city’s budget for 2025-26 on Tuesday, but not before confronting a $21 million deficit that will require difficult decisions about taxes and services.
The shortfall stems from adding 120 new deputy positions, increased health care expenses and federal debt obligations.

The Augusta Hooters, a longtime Washington Road institution, is nothing but a pile of rubble.
The budget deficit affects public safety, roads, parks and other daily city services. Commissioners must decide whether to raise taxes or cut services to balance the budget.
