COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KCRG) - A county supervisor accused of repeatedly being drunk at county meetings has resigned following a motion to remove him from office.
The Pottawattamie County Attorney filed a complaint detailing allegations against the County Board of Supervisors’ Chair Scott Belt and seeking to remove him from office. However, Belt opted to resign his position instead.
According to the complaint, investigators had identified at least seven occasions in the past 13 months where Belt had appeared intoxicated. But the issue came to a head after incidents at meetings on November 5th and 6th.
Belt was out drinking at a local bar before a November 5th County Supervisors meeting and ordered two alcoholic drinks.
