Despite a last-minute deal reached by nurses, tens of thousands of other UC medical workers launched a two-day strike Monday.

At UCSF Mission Bay in San Francisco, some of the 40,000 custodians, food service workers and hospital technicians in the University of California system were picketing Monday morning.

While the nurses union reached a tentative deal over the weekend and dropped plans to hold a solidarity strike, leaders of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees say contract talks with UC are at a standstill.
