ROCKFORD, Ill. — A local church will give out groceries to families in need ahead of Thanksgiving.
City First Church in Rockford is partnering with Northern Illinois Food Bank and State Senator Dave Syverson to host a free food distribution for about 750 families in the Rockford area.
Semi-trucks will bring dairy, protein, and produce items to supply the drive-thru distribution.
"We believe the Church should be a source of hope, especially in times of need," said City First Church Executive Pastor, Pastor Page Flock.
The church said it was hosting the event due to many families facing food insecurity from the pause in SNAP benefits.
The food distribution will be drive-thru and contactless. Anyone interested in coming is asked to arrive with enough space in their vehicles to fit mult
