A Massachusetts police officer is being lauded as a hero after he pulled an unresponsive driver from a burning vehicle following a crash early Sunday morning.

Around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Maynard Police Officer Joseph Noonan was on patrol in the area of Great Road when a bystander approached him and said that a truck had crashed into a utility pole, officials said. Noonan arrived at the scene and found a GMC Sierra pickup that appeared to have struck a telephone pole and had sustained significant damage.

Noonan called dispatch to report the crash and then noticed that a small fire was beginning to form under the truck's front engine bay. He made contact with the driver, who was alert and conscious but wasn't following
