A significant fire broke out early Sunday morning at the PHR Peakers plant in Texas City, Texas. Firefighters responded to the scene after the blaze was reported around 2:30 a.m. The plant is located on the 5500 block of Highway 146, just within the city limits.

Thick smoke was visible from the fire, prompting a public safety alert to be sent to mobile devices in the area. Residents were advised to avoid the smoke, which was seen drifting northeast over Galveston Bay. ABC13 Meteorologist Kevin Roth noted that the smoke plume was detectable on the 13 Alert Radar.

Fire crews from Pearland, Bacliff, and other nearby Galveston County departments joined forces to combat the flames. The San Leon Volunteer Fire Department led the response efforts. Photos from the scene showed multiple fire engines working to control the fire, which continued to smolder throughout the morning.

Texas City firefighters reported that air quality monitoring indicated safe conditions for residents. The fire chief confirmed that no one was present at the plant at the time of the incident, as the facility has been decommissioned for some time.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters are also working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby brush.

This incident is still developing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
