After Canada officially lost its measles elimination status, Algoma Public Health (APH) says the priority is keeping local vaccination levels high.
“The loss of elimination status emphasizes the need for investment in public health services to maximize immunization coverage across Canada,” Dr. John Tuinema, associate medical officer of health/director of health protection at Algoma Public Health, told The Sault Star.

Sault Ste. Marie has seen vaccination uptake remain strong, supported by APH’s regular immunization clinics at Willow Avenue.
“The overwhelming majority of parents in Algoma get their children vaccinated,” he added.
The Pan American Health Organization announced last week it had revoked Canada’s measles elimination status after close to three decade
