A dog is getting a boost from the Monroe County community. Angel, a 2-year-old doodle mix, was brought in as a stray to the Humane Society of Monroe County around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, by animal control officer Selena Smith.

Angel was emaciated, weighing only 17 pounds and barely able to move, according to the Humane Society's Director Jackie Monteer. They chose the name Angel because they were surprised she was still alive. Her fur was also dirty and matted; they had to cut it away from her face just to see her eyes. They also needed to take her to an emergency vet, which is an expensive endeavor, so the Humane Society set up a GoFundMe page for her treatment.
