SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - A motorcyclist died after crashing into an excavator in a construction zone on Saturday evening, according to the Salem Police Department.

The crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. near 49th Avenue Northeast on Nov. 15.

Police say a witness reported the motorcyclist went through a barricade that had closed Hazelgreen Road Northeast west of 49th Avenue. The motorcyclist continued through the construction zone before crashing into the back of an excavator.

The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene. Police say the construction zone was not active at the time of the crash and no other injuries were reported.

The crash investigation is ongoing, and no other details have been released.
