A teenage girl has died after she was hit by a car that fled the scene north of Brisbane .

Emergency services were called to Margate Pde, Margate, after reports a white ute had hit a 17-year-old girl about 11.27pm on Monday.

The car did not stop and fled the scene after the crash, according to police.

Officers found the girl with life-threatening injuries and performed CPR, however, she was unable to be saved and was declared dead a short time later.

Local resident, Kimberley Cullen, heard a crash so loud she thought it was a car hitting another car, but when she went out onto her balcony she could “see there was a person on the ground”.
