LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Southwest Louisiana voters rejected several tax proposals on the ballot in the general election Saturday, Nov. 15.

Out of 14 proposals on the ballot throughout the area, five were voted down.

Over the next couple of days, 7News will take a closer look at some of these failed proposals and hear from officials what will happen next.

Calcasieu Parish

Sulphur voters rejected an $83-million bond to improve school facilities. Nearly 62% of voters opposed the new tax.

Voters approved a $12 million bond for school improvements in Starks, with 60% in favor, and a tax renewal for Ward 1 Fire Protection District 1, with 84% in favor.

Beauregard Parish
