One of the crazier coaching carousels in recent college football memory has been churning over the past couple of months, and it all started with the firing of former Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin.

Now, in mid-November, Franklin has reportedly landed a new job, signing a contract to become the new coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies. The news was first reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.

This was the expected landing spot for Franklin, who spent 12 years at Penn State, going 104-45 with the Nittany Lions. Franklin replaces Brent Pry at Virginia Tech, who was fired earlier this season after an 0-3 start to the year.

This is a nice landing spot for Franklin, where he has the backing of a well-respected athletic department and a clear path to the top of the ACC, where he can compete for spots in the College Football Playoff. This is something that Franklin was able to do at Penn State, going 2-1 in the CFP last season before losing in the semifinals to Notre Dame.

Earlier this year on ESPN's "College GameDay," Franklin said that his ultimate goal is to return to the playoff and compete for championships.

“I’m very, very grateful for the time I had and, most importantly, for the relationships I was able to build," Franklin said. "I thought we were going to win a national championship. We were close. That goal hasn’t changed. We’re just going to go win a national championship somewhere else now.”

Now he gets to strive for that goal at Virginia Tech.
