OPP officers in Sudbury will now be wearing body cameras.

The Nipissing West OPP detachment, which includes Sudbury, French River and Sturgeon Falls, said it is in the process of rolling out the devices to each individual officer.

The body-worn cameras — or BWCs, as they are abbreviated in police parlance — come on the heels of other technology like in-car cameras and plate-reading devices being installed in OPP cruisers.

“The OPP is committed to adopting tools and technologies that improves the quality of evidence, enhance accountability, transparency, and ultimately support the safety of both the public and officers in the communities we serve,” the detachment said in a release.
