Just 15 months out from the next state election, NSW National party members have elected a new leader following the shock resignation of Dugald Saunders.

In a leadership ballot on the morning of Tuesday, November 18, members voted in favour of Saunders' deputy leader, Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh, taking over the top spot.

Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson is set to serve as Mr Singh's deputy.

They were chosen in an uncontested ballot.

Mr Singh has served as the Member for Coffs Harbour since the 2019 state election.

He was the Nationals Whip from 2022 to 2024 and has also served as the Shadow Minister for Regional Health, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, and the Shadow Minister for North Coast.
