Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague gives a fascinating look into the making of Breathless , one of the most iconic films of all time. Directed by auteur Jean-Luc Godard, it follows a criminal on the run with an American journalist and is one of the earliest and most high-profile works from the French New Wave movement. Nouvelle Vague, titled after the cinematic era’s French name, depicts Godard’s (Guillaume Marbeck) transformation from film critic to celebrated director. As the story goes, he had no script for Breathless , just an outline , and it was largely filmed with a handheld camera.
