WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel has been appointed interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
Schimel, who lost the election for Wisconsin Supreme Court justice earlier this year to Susan Crawford, now becomes the top federal prosecutor for the region.
His appointment was criticized Monday by Senator Tammy Baldwin, who said in a statement that President Trump bypassed a bipartisan nominating commission to pick Schimel.
