WASHINGTON — In his first public appearance since a heart issue led to him falling and sustaining injuries to his face, U.S. Sen. John Fetterman sat before a crowd of Jewish organization leaders and cracked a joke.

“Be honest. The face is normal, right?” Mr. Fetterman, who said over the weekend he’d received 20 stitches, told an assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America on Monday. “The kids said they won't even notice, right?”

The Pennsylvania Democrat sat for the 17-minute interview two days after being released from a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was transported on Thursday after an early morning fall near his home in Braddock.
