PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain in east Phoenix remains closed while crews begin work to remove multiple boulders that eroded and loosened during storms that moved through the area last month.
The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department discovered possible erosion along the trail in mid-October, and it has been closed ever since . A team of geotechnical and civil engineers has been working over the past month to finalize a plan to stabilize and remove three loose boulders.
On Monday, crews will begin coring multiple holes into each boulder and injecting expanding grout. Under pressure, the grout will cause the boulders to safely separate.
