Describing Jake Weatherald as a revelation, Beau Webster is unlikely to play in the same Test team as his Tasmania teammate.

After making an immediate impact on Australia debut in January, Webster's run in the XI is at risk ahead of the Ashes.

Marnus Labuschagne's return to form for Queensland this summer means he is a certainty to reclaim the spot he lost for the tour of the Caribbean in July.

If selectors decide Labuschagne shouldn't open, as he did during the World Test Championship final, making 17 and 22, then Weatherald will debut on Friday against England in Perth.

Labuschagne has spent 50 of his 58 Tests batting at No.3, the same position he scored his two Sheffield Shield centuries for the Bulls this season.

It would be a tough moment for Webster if he is denied an Ashes spot
