LAMOINE, Maine (WABI) - Vietnam War veteran Mahlon Wood lives with his family in Lamoine, and within their home lies a piece of history.

“We had that in the family for years. I think we had it digitized about five or six years ago,” says Wood’s daughter Shannon Byers.

In December of 1970, CBS News reported on an exchange ceremony where U.S. Navy river patrol boats were turned over to the Vietnamese during the last several years of the war.

At the time, Wood happened to be stationed in Saigon and answered several questions on camera for reporter Ed Rabel. The 16-millimeter footage of the CBS broadcast would be requested soon after by family.
