COLUMBIA, S.C. — New information is emerging about a crime spree that law enforcement says spanned three counties and ended Saturday in Calhoun County with an Orangeburg County deputy injured and a suspect shot.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says 32-year-old Steven Townsend carjacked a victim at 7 a.m. Saturday. A sheriff's department incident report News 19 obtained said it happened on Blythewood Road.

From there, deputies say he carjacked another vehicle at the BP at 1609 Beltline Blvd in Columbia.

A gas station worker there says the man whose vehicle was stolen was in shock.

“It was his car, and he was so nervous about his car because he has all of his working tools in the car. And he lost his car, he was so shocked.”
