AIKEN, SC. (WRDW/WAGT) -The Salvation Army of Aiken is looking for community support for more than 4,000 individuals registered in this year’s Angel Tree program.
This number marks an increase of nearly 1,000 participants compared to last year.
The program serves children, nursing home residents and senior citizens, with many seniors living below the poverty line facing difficult choices between basic necessities.
“We have senior citizens who are trying to choose between do they purchase toilet paper or laundry detergent,” said Captain Michael Good of the Salvation Army of Aiken. “This is the time of the year where people can step up and help with both. They request basic things like new pillows are sheet sets, robes and blankets.”
