STATESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Edmund Burke Academy is preparing for its third consecutive trip to the GIAA state championship game by practicing on the same turf surface where the team won it all last year.
The Spartans have the opportunity to practice on turf thanks to former connections with Georgia Southern, giving them experience on the playing surface they’ll face Friday night at Mercer University against Robert Toombs.
“To play on the turf, to just do everything a little different than normal. I like that routine for our guys. It’s just a chance to get them refocused and just know that there’s going to be extra distractions this week,” said Andy Woodard, Edmund Burke Academy coach.
