BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

The future of the relationship between Alabama Public Television and the Public Broadcasting Service is unclear. Monday, Gov. Kay Ivey sent a letter to the Alabama Educational Television Commission regarding its potential vote tomorrow on APT separating from PBS.

Through the letter, the governor asks the commission to thoroughly survey Alabamians about what they want and what the next steps should be if they cut ties. She also wants the commission to prepare a disaffiliation plan for public view. In her letter, she said the commission was created by law to make the benefits of educational TV available to the people of Alabama. She wants to know the reasons for the move and how the commission will continue to do its legal duty.
