DUPLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A house fire early Monday morning outside of Beulaville destroyed a home built in 1935 after flames started in the chimney.

Four fire departments responded to the house fire at 1711 Hallsville Rd just after 1 a.m. in Duplin County. The home was over 4,000 square feet, according to the fire chief.

All people inside made it out in time, and nobody was taken to the hospital with injuries. However, one of the family’s two dogs did not make it out.

Beulaville Fire Chief Joey Carter said firefighters battled the blaze until about 5 a.m. and the home was a total loss.

Carter says an elderly woman, her son and a friend were staying at the house when they first noticed the fire in the chimney.
