DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Replacement of Duluth International Airport’s very old air traffic control tower is now much closer to becoming reality. This is after an announcement on Monday of significant federal funding being secured.
This new grant provides $20 million to fund the relocation of the air traffic control tower at the Duluth airport, and it’s a project our local legislators have been working on for years.
Senators Klobuchar and Smith, and Representative Pete Stauber, teamed up with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to send a letter to the FAA in 2023.
That letter helped secure the approvals required for the airport to apply for grants to build a new air traffic control tower, replacing the current one that is out of date and not up to standard regulations.
