DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Hiding behind my garage is a duck boat built by a former neighbor in 1929 when he was 16.
In 1940, many duck boats were caught in the open as a monster storm roared through the Upper Midwest.
Movie goers in November 1940 were mesmerized by news reels of the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State.
It was caused by a Pacific Low that had enough power to survive the trip across the Rockies.
It dove towards the Oklahoma Panhandle to become an infamous Texas Hook storm as it turned toward our region.
The storm drove millions of ducks ahead of it so Upper Midwest duck hunters were out by the thousands when the storm struck here.
