INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services says it has made significant progress under new leadership.

Amanda DeHoney-Hinkle was appointed to the director job earlier this year by Mayor Joe Hogsett.

While the shelter saw an increase in animals this year compared to last, they also saw a 12% increase in adoptions and a 30% increase in transfers.

On top of that, IACS says it has seen a 13% decrease in euthanasia and the average length of stay for an animal has dropped to 20 days, compared to 24 days last year.

“All of these numbers tell a collective story,” said DeHoney-Hinkle. “The work of our dedicated staff and volunteers are saving more lives, even as we take more animals into our care.”
