CINCINNATI —
CAT scans detecting cancer is nothing new. But now, doctors are using artificial intelligence to spot cancer even sooner.
“I'm here three years later because I did find out and because I did finally say, ‘Okay, let's get this little test, get it out of the way,’” said Carol Woulms. Advertisement
Each year at her annual check-up, Woulms's doctor would encourage her to get a low-radiation CAT scan to check for lung cancer.
“I was scared to death,” Woulms said. “Oh my gosh, what's going to show?”
Woulms had been a smoker for decades. “I was about 12 when I started smoking, Woulms said. “I used to go buy cigarettes from my father.”
While she was scared, Carol decided to do it. After her fifth scan, she got the news she dreaded—stage three lung cancer.
