With India Test captain Shubman Gill likely to sit out from the second and final Test of the ongoing Freedom Trophy with South Africa, the team management has asked all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to link up with the squad earlier than the original schedule. Nitish was representing India A against South Africa A in the ongoing unofficial ODI series in Rajkot.

The 22-year-old is part of India’s Test squad for the South Africa series but was released from the series opener in Kolkata given the playing conditions.

According to a report in timesofindia.com , the team management wanted Nitish to continue playing and, therefore, asked him to play in the three-match one-day series. In the first one-dayer, he scored 37 runs and took 1/18 but he didn’t get to bat or bowl
