INDIANAPOLIS — On Monday, the Boone County prosecutor filed charges against a Whitestown man who allegedly shot and killed a cleaning worker, Maria Florinda Rios Perez, earlier this month.
Carolina Castoreno, co-founder of the Alliance for Latino Migrant Advocacy, a nonprofit that is helping Perez's family with local resources, believes this charge is not fair. While the family didn't show up for the update from the prosecutor's office, Castoreno spoke on their behalf.
"My personal reaction, I think that this is extremely unjust. I think that this demanded a little bit more scrutiny. I think that this is something that a woman's life was taken," Castoreno said.
