A Cape Verdean mother from Rhode Island has spent nearly two weeks in detention at Boston's Logan airport. The federal government now plans to move her to a facility in Maine, as a court deadline expires for officials to explain why she remains in custody.
According to court filings, customs and immigration authorities have been trying to find an appropriate place to detain 48-year-old Eva Mendes, admitting that the location where she's been held for 12 days isn't suitable for long-term stays.

"I had to agree to that. There's no beds anywhere in Massachusetts for women. This is a violation of women's rights," said Mendes' immigration lawyer, Todd Pomerleau.
