The Alaska Wildlife Alliance and other groups have filed a lawsuit against the Alaska Board of Game, arguing that its predator control program allows unlimited hunting of bears in southwest Alaska. The program, which spans 44,000 square miles near Wood-Tikchik State Park, was originally designed to protect the Mulchatna caribou herd.

Carol Damberg with Alaska Wildlife Alliance, says, “Allowing for the unlimited take of brown bears and black bears in the southwest part of Alaska…without adhering to the constitutional requirement.”

Alaska’s constitution requires that natural resources—like fish, forests, and wildlife—be managed to last for future generations.
