OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - A tight mayoral race in Ottumwa led to a full recount as the auditor’s office reviewed all 2,729 ballots cast in the election.
The Wapello County Auditor’s office conducted the recount after Case requested it.
Case had trailed Foote by 16 votes in the initial count.
“So, what we did we just recounted the ballots that we did on election day. So we just fed them in one by one. Just like a voter would do on election day,” said Wapello County Auditor Kelly Spurgeon.
Going through each ballot, Case did gain one additional vote, but the overall results did not change. As Foote still leads with 1,299 votes to Case’s 1,284.
