OMAHA, Neb. —
The Omaha Public Schools Board of Education heard new data on chronic absenteeism in the district.
The board was given a report on attendance at its regular meeting Monday night. According to the report, OPS saw a decrease of 714 chronically absent students during the 2024-25 school year.
The district also saw an increase of 1,230 students attending 95% or more of the school year. The data also showed that unexcused absences made up nearly 72% of all school absences. The report states that's an increase of more than 3% from the school year before.
OPS says it's priorities are more consistent communication between schools and families. It also wants to collaborate across departments and create positive conditions for learning.
