A Victorian Supreme Court jury has heard opening arguments in Jodie Hill's trial over the alleged murder of John Hunter in western Victoria last year.

Ms Hill, 45, maintained her not-guilty plea to the single charge of murder.

The court heard 72-year-old Mr Hunter was found dead in his home in Victoria Street, Dimboola, on the evening of January 23, 2023.

Police reported that at the time of the death, one of Mr Hunter's friends found his "stiff and cold" body after several failed attempts from concerned community members to contact him, the court heard.

Barrister Nadia Kaddeche (supported by Briana Goding) for the Crown told the jury that forensic analysis indicated a violent confrontation took place in the kitchen and dining room of the deceased's house.
