A lighting cable has come crashing down on a $105 million pedestrian bridge, forcing its immediate closure less than a year after opening.

The incident occurred around 5pm Monday (8pm AEDT) on the state-of-the-art Boorloo Bridge in Perth, which only opened in December last year to much fanfare.

Video from the scene shows the cable tangled in the bridge’s beams, with crews working to remove the damaged infrastructure. A truck has been brought in to load the broken beam pieces onto the back of the vehicle.

Thankfully, no one appears to have been injured in the incident, despite the potential danger to pedestrians and cyclists who regularly use the crossing. The West reported the lights narrowly missed a woman who was cycling across the bridge at the time.
