Victoria’s new Liberal opposition leader Jess Wilson has declared economic management her top priority, vowing to tackle the state’s mounting debt crisis that she says is costing taxpayers $2 million every hour.
In her first major interview since taking the leadership, the 35-year-old lawyer and mother outlined her vision for Victoria, promising lower taxes and judicial reform while defending her experience to lead the state.
“Net debt in this state is growing by $2 million every single hour,” Wilson said.
“What that means is we’re paying record amounts in interest. And the cost of that means we can’t fund more teachers. We can’t fund more nurses. We can’t invest and upgrade our schools.”
