A security guard employed at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) was arrested on Monday evening for allegedly driving under the influence and hitting two North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) students, leaving them seriously injured.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem confirmed that an attempt to murder case has been registered against the accused, Permen M Sangma, who is currently in police custody.
“We have arrested the person responsible behind the accident. We have registered a case against him and seized the vehicle,” Syiem said.
Asked, the SP said police have booked the accused person under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder.
