In Maharashtra's Marathwada, 899 farmers committed suicide between January and October this year. Of these, 537 farmers took their own lives in just six months (May 1 to October 31), when crops suffered heavy damage due to floods and heavy rains.
On this, Minister of State for Agriculture Ashish Jaiswal said that the government is paying attention to this serious issue. Expenditure on schemes and incentives for farmers has been increased to ₹1 lakh crore.
