Catalina Mancera, the pregnant girlfriend of late Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Marshawn Kneeland, is reaching out to fans for support. Following Kneeland's tragic death by apparent suicide earlier this month, Mancera is asking for any photos or memories people may have of him.
In a heartfelt Facebook post over the weekend, Mancera expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support she has received. "Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all the love, prayers, and messages that have been sent my way. Your support has meant more to me than I can put into words during such a painful time," she wrote.
Mancera continued, "As I continue honoring Marshawn’s memory, I’m trying to gather as many photos and memories of him as possible. If you have any pictures of Marshawn, whether they’re recent, old, funny, or meaningful, I would truly appreciate it if you could share them with me. Every photo helps me hold onto a piece of him and the beautiful impact he had on all of us. Thank you again for your kindness, your prayers, and for keeping my sweet baby in your hearts. It brings me comfort knowing how deeply he was loved."
Kneeland was found dead from what authorities described as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the early hours of November 6. This followed a police pursuit in Frisco, Texas. In the days after his death, it was revealed that Mancera is expecting the couple's first child, a boy.
Mancera, 22, spoke about the emotional toll of Kneeland's death, stating, "It’s too much. I’m grieving hard right now. It will be a long time before I’ll feel ready to talk at any length."
On the night of November 5, police responded to a report of a vehicle that had evaded troopers. Kneeland was later identified as the driver who fled on foot. During the search, police received information indicating that he had expressed suicidal thoughts. He was found deceased at 1:31 a.m.
In audio recordings, Mancera informed dispatchers that Kneeland was armed and had a history of mental illness. She also mentioned that he had sent a goodbye text to his family.
"We’re talking to the girlfriend, she’s trying to call the agent, so we’re trying to get her to call him first but she’s saying he is armed and has a history of mental illness, and her quote was, ‘He will end it all,’" the dispatcher relayed in the audio.
The Cowboys played their first game since Kneeland's death against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. Team members wore shirts featuring Kneeland's image as they secured a 33-16 victory. A moment of silence and a video tribute to Kneeland are planned for the Cowboys' next home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 22.
