Many taxpayers who completed their income tax return (ITR) weeks or even months ago are still waiting for their refunds despite the September 16, 2025 filing deadline having passed long ago. With bank accounts being checked daily, the tax department says the delays are tied to closer scrutiny of questionable deduction claims. Launching a taxpayers’ lounge at the India International Trade Fair (IITF), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agrawal said the department has already contacted individuals who may have missed key disclosures, asking them to submit revised returns.
