The National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory for the Southern Mountains, warning that a strong storm system could deliver up to a foot of snow — and even more at the highest peaks.
The advisory went into effect at 11 p.m. Monday and extends to 5 a.m. Wednesday, covering areas including the Pine Valley Mountains, Brian Head and Boulder Mountain.
Forecasters expect 6 to 12 inches of snow above 8,000 feet, with isolated pockets receiving up to 15 inches where southerly flow enhances snowfall. Elevations between 6,500 and 8,000 feet could see 2-6 inches of accumulation.
The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions along higher-elevation routes.
“Winter driving conditions are likely for all mountain routes above 8,000 feet tonight, and at or above 7,000
