“Profound and enduring.”

That was how the judge described the pain he saw in Benjamin Brallier’s family Tuesday morning, even now, more than a year since his murder.

But it was also how the judge described Ant Quesen’s mental illness and need for intensive treatment, regardless of the sentence he handed down. Quesen, 26, pleaded guilty but mentally ill earlier this year in connection with Mr. Brallier’s 2024 slaying.

Mr. Brallier, a 44-year-old state police Liquor Control Enforcement agent, was jogging along the Montour Trail in Moon midafternoon Oct. 21, 2024, when he was attacked and stabbed to death. A blood trail and yellow bicycle found at the scene led police to Quesen.
