Drug-sniffing dogs helped officers uncover blocks of some 20 pounds of cocaine, hidden in two vehicle batteries found in the back of a car pulled over for a traffic stop in St. James Parish, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
Agents on patrol along the Mississippi River levee on Nov. 14, with the help of a St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s deputy and his drug-sniffing dog, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle there, where the dog detected drugs, Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release.
The driver, who was not identified in the news release, was transported to a facility of the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office and warrants were secured for the vehicle.
