The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Board voted Monday night to transfer five cultural facilities to the Arts and Culture Department.
The five facilities moving to the Arts and Culture Department are the Phoenix Center for the Arts, the Phoenix Center for the Arts Thunderbird Teen Center, the Tovrea Castle, the Shemer Art Center and the S'edev Va'aki Museum.
In 2024, the Parks and Recreation and the Arts and Culture departments identified the facilities, each having a unique operating agreement and distinct programming. The goal was to move the facilities under the direct oversight of the Arts and Culture Department to strengthen coordination and support.
The two departments worked together during a one-year pilot program to see if transferring the facilities would be in the best interest
