STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Students from over two dozen intermediate and high schools gathered in their school colors to help feed hungry Staten Islanders on Tuesday.

About 150 students representing schools both public and private joined forces to pack boxes of food, stock shelves and perform other tasks at Project Hospitality in Stapleton to keep the borough’s largest food pantry up and running. Students also helped pack and serve hot lunch bags to nearly 150 community members.

The student-led initiative marks the kick-off of the Poor People’s Dinner, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bloomfield.
