A suspect was shot by police in an alley Tuesday in the Washington Park neighborhood.

The suspect “is going to be ok,’' said police spokesperson Tom Ahern, who was on the scene Tuesday afternoon in the 5600 block of South Michigan Avenue.

Initially, the man’s condition was given as critical.

The shooting happened shortly before noon, said Chicago fire department spokesperson Larry Merritt, who said the man who was shot was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

At least one officer, who was not injured, was taken to another hospital for precautionary measures.

According to sources, the situation possibly unfolded during a SWAT incident that Wentworth District tactical officers were responding to.
