COLUMBUS, Ohio – Central Ohio filmmaker Shane Thompson is bringing attention to the critical issue of school violence with his upcoming short film, The First Day of School. Shot in Columbus, the film features a primarily local cast of child actors alongside Hollywood veteran Doug Jones, known for roles in Hocus Pocus, Star Trek: Discovery, and several Guillermo del Toro films.
Thompson, a former educator, penned the script and serves as both producer and co-director on the project alongside fellow co-director and producer Ralph Scott . Thompson explained that the film was inspired by firsthand experiences witnessing the fear children feel when faced with threats of violence in schools.
