LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in attempt to take his own life, according to Lake Charles police.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at 3:23am, Lake Charles Police responded an Emergency Assist call in the 3800 block of Texas Street.

When officers entered the residence, they located 47-year-old Laura Fontenot who was found deceased with a gun shot wound, and Brett Fontenot who was injured from a gunshot wound, according to a news release from Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum.

Investigators with the Lake Charles Police Department learned the couple got into an argument earlier in night at another location, Kirkum said. Once back at their residence, Brett Fontenot shot Laura before turning the weapon on himself.
